Welcome to Hazel 4! 

Your teacher is Miss Wolfenden and your ETA is Mrs cromack!  Hope you have all had a super summer and are ready for the learing and challenges of year 4.

Important Infomation!

Our PE days are Monday and Tuesday may be outdoor PE so please ensure your child has appropriate outdoor footwear and warm clothing. All jewellery must be removed on PE days.

Homework will be handed out on a Friday and Collected back in on the following Wednesday. Each week your child will recieve spellings, which will be tested on the following Friday.

 

This weeks learning- week commencing 12.2.18

English: In English this week we will be writing our own metaphor poems about love and hate. We will be exploring the similarties and differences between metaphors and similes.

Maths: In maths we will be continuing to look at the link between fractions and decimals, we will then further move onto rounding decimals.

 

Spring term

Our current topic is the Egyptians! We will be looking at the different Historical aspects of the Egyptians, including who they were, at what period they lived, their life style, including mummifcation and the after life. We will be comparing the life of the Egyptians to the life of people today. Further we will be making our own canopic jars in the first week back as part of DT week. For the geographical side of the Egyptians we will be looking at the river nile. We will also have an egyptian based school trip to the Leeds city museum in February.

Our science topic this term is teeth and eating. Children will begin looking at the different types of teeth we have and their purpose. Further we will learn about teeth hygiene, we will soak boiled eggs in different liquids to measure the impact different drinks can have on the enamel on your teeth. Children will then move onto learning about the digestive system, of which they will be reproducing in an experiment.

For Art we will be looking at Egyptian death masks, we will be experimenting with different textures and shading to create effect.

R.E this half term will focus on leaders, what a leader is and examples of leaders we can think of.
