Weekly Learning in 3RP

Week Commencing - 10/12/18

 

English - This week, we will be completing our assessments and beginning to look at a new fiction book - Stone Age Boy!

 

Maths - We will be continuing to focus on multiplication this week, moving on to use the grid method to solve multiplication problems with larger numbers.

 

Homework - Due in by Wednesday, children have been asked to consolidate their maths learning this week by using arrays to solve problems. 

 

Week Commencing - 03/12/18

 

English - This week in English we are doing Cracking Comprehension! Children will be using strategies to answer questions about a given text.

 

Maths - In Maths this week we will be focussing on multiplication using arrays, making arrays ourself to represent multiplication number sentences and using them to help solve multiplication problems.

 

Homework - Childern have been given a food diary to aid our Science learning next week. 

Week Commencing - 26/11/18

 

English - This week in English children will be introduced to the Utterzoo Alphabet. We will be looking at the poem and discussing rhyming words before beginning to have a go at writing our own rhymes towards the end of the week.

 

Maths - In maths this week the focus is on multiplication. Children will be practicing their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables and completing problems involving them.

 

Homework - Due in by Wednesday, children have been given addition word problems to solve.

 

Week Commencing - 19/11/18

 

English - This week, children will use all they have learnt to write a set of instructions about how the capture a vampire.

 

Maths - In maths this week, children will be looking at word problems involving addition and subtraction.

 

Homework - Due in on Wednesday, children have been asked to write their own set of instructions about anything that they want.

 

Week Commencing - 12/11/18

 

English - This week we are continuing our instructions topic. Children will be finishing off writing their instructions about how to change their teacher in to a toad before writing a complete set of instructions themselves. 

 

Maths - In maths this week we will be subtracting numbers using the partitioning method.

 

Homework - Due in by Wednesday, children are consolidating their learning about 2D and 3D shapes.

Week Commencing - 05/11/18

English - This week we will be beginning our instructions topic. Children will be looking at a variety of instructions and identifying their features.

 

Maths - This week we will be naming 2D and 3D shapes as well as discussing their properties.

 

Homework - Due in by Wednesday, children have been asked to find examples of instructions and bring them in to look at through the week.

Week Commencing - 21/10/18

English - In English this week the children will be exploring a series of silly poetry books and completing work based on what they read.

 

Maths - Maths this week will focus on consolidating the children's understanding of place value, addition and subtraction. We will be using everything that we have learnt so far to reason and solve different types of problems.

 

Homework - Due in by Wednesday, the children have to complete a series of subtraction calculations using the numberline method that we have learnt this week.

Week Commencing - 15/10/18

 

English - It's assessment week. The children will be completing their reading, spelling and grammar half termly assessments.

 

Maths - The children will begin the week by using numberlines to subtract 2 digit numbers, before completing their maths half termly assessment at the end of the week.

 

Homework - Due in by Wednesday, the children have been given a Haunted House setting to write descriptive phrases about. 

 

 

Week Commencing - 08/10/18

 

English - Starting the week in English, the children will be completing their unaided descriptive paragraph describing a haunted house setting! We will then look at editing and improving our paragraphs before re-writing for a final draft.

 

Maths - In maths this week the children will be moving on to look at subtraction. We will be using Base 10 to help us subtract 1 and 2digit numbers from 2 and 3 digit numbers.

 

Homework - Due in by Wednesday, children have been given some addition calculations to solve using the numberline method that we have looked at this week.

 

Week Beginning 01/10/18

 

English - This week in English we will be continuing to focus on setting descriptions for stories, starting with a description of a forest setting, then moving on to planning for a spooky house setting. As always, the correct use of punctuation and grammar is incredibly important.

 

Maths - In maths this week the children will be strengthening their understanding of how numbers are made, along with adding numbers using numberlines.

 

Homework - Due in by Wednesday, this week the children have been asked to draw a scene.

 

Week Beginning 24/09/18

 

English - In English this week, children will be continuing their work on setting description. We will be moving on to creating sentences and eventually a full paragraph describing a forest setting.

 

Maths - In maths this week, the children will be counting on and back in multiples of 10 and 100 at the beginning of the week. They will then move on to adding one digit numbers mentally to 2 and 3 digit numbers.

 

Homework - Due in by Wednesday, this week the children have been asked to consolidate their understanding of maths from the week and fill in missing numbers in different sequences.

Week Beginning 17/09/18

 

English - This week in English we will be continuing to focus on the correct use of capital letters and full stops as well as starting our setting description topic.

 

Maths - In maths this week the children will continue looking at how numbers are built. We will also be comparing and writing numbers up to 1000.

 

Homework - To be in by Wednesday, the children have the write out sentences using capital letters and full stops correctly.

 

Week Beginning 10/09/18

 

First of all I want to say welcome and well done for a fantastic first week Birch 3RP, it's been brilliant getting to know you all!

 

English - This week in English we will be continuing to focus on the correct use of capital letter and full stops. The children will be thinking about what a sentence should look like, sound like and include. 

 

Maths - In maths this week the children will be looking at how numbers are built. We will also be thinking about partitioning numbers in different ways towards the end of the week. 

 

Homework - To be in by Wednesday, the children have been given a number building activity that focusses on the amount of Hundreds, Tens and Ones in certain numbers.
