So much news to celebrate from a fantastic few weeks of sport and activity here at Bywell!

More to follow in the coming days including:

Year 6 Football competition

Swimming Gala

Sports Week!

North Kirklees Tag Rugby Finals

We took a team to the North Kirklees Tag Rugby Finals at Leeds Road PLaying Fields on the 24th April. On what was a wet and windy day, our boys and girls played brilliantly and worked really hard. In the end we finished 3rd out of the 21 teams that were there! An amazing achievement that means we have qualified for the West Yorkshire Finals later in the year.

Netball Competition

This year we entered two teams in to the area HI5 Netball competition held at Manor Croft. Both of our teams played really well and improved throughout the event.

Exciting News!

This term marks the start of two early morning sports clubs

here at Bywell. Children from every year group will have the

opportunity to take part in a fun filled, multi sports club from

8.00am on a Tuesday or Thursday. We hope that this will

prove to be a fantastic start  to their day, and get minds,

as well as bodies, ready for the day of learning ahead!

Sports Hall Athletics North Kirklees Finals

Our Year 5/6 athletics team qualified for the North Kirklees Indoor Athletics Finals, held at Batley Sports centre in January. Our boys and girls performed brilliantly against some other fantastic schools and pushed them all the way! Unfortunately we did not qualify for the next round, but we can be extremely proud of our performance.

Year 3/4 Dodgeball Festival

In another first, this year we entered a team in the Year 3/4 dodgeball festival held at Batley Sports Centre. Now, unfortunately there was a clash of dates which meant that none of our Year 4 children were able to attend. But never fear, we had an abundance of Year 3 children willing and able to step up! In what was a hectic, fast paced afternoon, we played brilliantly and more than held our own against the older children. But most of all, we had a super fun time. Well done guys!

Sports Hall Athletics Area Qualifiers

This year we took two teams to the Sports Hall Athletics competition held at Manor Croft! Thats 36 children out representiting the school! Both our Year 6 and Year 4/5 team performed brilliantly, and the standard they displayed was brilliant. Our Year 6 team were pushed all the way, with some of our Year 4 and 5 children proving that they were more than up for the challenge. We are now waiting for the results to find out who has made it through to the next round after christmas. Fingers crossed!

BSSA 7-a-side Football Area Finals

Having made it through from the last round we were eager to show what we could do again. The standard was very strong and our boys played really well. every single game was very close, and although we wont be progressing any further, our team can be really proud of themselves.

Spen Valley U11 Girls Football Qualifier

This year, for the first time, we took a team of girls to the U11 Spen Valley Qualifiers. Our girls played brilliantly! Even more impressive when you consider some of them had never played a competitive football match before! We improved as the night went on and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Sports Leaders Training

This year we took a group of Year 5 and 6 children to Kick Off in Dewsbury for a day of Sports Leader training. The aim of the day was to provide the children with the skills and confidence to come back into school and take a leading role in developing sports and physical activity. The children took part in a variety of different activities in the morning before being set the task of creating and running their own activity session in the afternoon which they delivered to children from different schools. It was a fantastic day and I know that the group have a wealth of knowledge, confidence and enthusiasm to bring back into school and share with us!

Spen Valley U11 Boys Football Qualifiers

We took 2 teams of boys top the Spen Valley Under 11 area qualifiers at St John Fishers High. It was a cold, unforgiving night and both of our teams played brilliantly. It was tough, and only one team would qualify for the next round, but we are thrilled to say that that team was one of ours! Well done boys, on to the West Yorkshire Finals next year.

BSSA 7-a-side football competition

We took a team of Year 6 boys to Batley Sports Centre to compete in the BSSA 7-a-side area qualifiers. We played eight tough, quick games in cold, wet conditions. The boys battled hard and worked well for each other, resulting in them only conceding one goal in the entire tournament! After that performance we have made it through to the next round which will be held later in the year.

North Kirklees Cross Country Finals

Our Year 6 Boys and Girls team both made it through to the North Kirklees Cross Country Final, as did Phoebe W who qualified as an individual. Everyone ran their hearts out and should be proud of what they achieved on what was a very tough course. Well done everyone!

SGO Cross Country Qualifier

On Tuesday we took teams of boys and girls from Years 4,5 and 6 to Batley Sports Centre to compete in the Cross Country Qualifier. The event was huge, with over 500 children participating. A huge well done to all of our boys and girls who did us so proud! Our results were unbelievable, we even had two winners! Everybody who took part represented our school superbly and should be so proud of themselves. Fingers crossed we may even have some qualified for the next round!
