Mental Health & Wellbeing
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing.
It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is essential at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Here at Bywell CE (C) Junior School, we take mental health very seriously and provide a platform of support with liaising agencies to support both the children and the parents.
We are also proud to state we are a school which is part of the MHST network of schools with a dedicated EMHP (Educational Mental health practitioner).
What does that mean?
Using our processes within school, we initially focus on short-term immediate strategies working with one of our highly skilled Learning Mentors and incorporate pastoral interventions – this could take the form of small group activities or, in a very small number of cases, 1:1. Following these interventions, if your child still requires further support, either at school or at home, a referral can be made through MHST school lead Ms J Bancroft where a discussion meeting takes place to gather information and the correct referral further can be made. MHST deal with low-level mental health concerns such as worries, Low mood, Loss and grief, to name a few. If you have any questions, please get in touch with the school.
The needs may be more for the individual, and a Thrive referral may be necessary, where the referral goes to the panel and looks at potentially CHEWS counselling service and emotional health workers, or CAHMS, Neuro-developmental pathway for ASC/ ADHD or LOCALA where again we have a dedicated Consultant worker assigned to the school.
