Welcome to Willow's Class Page
Year 4 consists of 3 classes: 4RP/AN (Mrs Patel's and Miss Nasir's Class), 4SD (Mrs Din's Class) and 4KM (Mr Mellor's Class). Always Child
Our Always Child awards were presented to:
Year 4 Curriculum
Times Tables
All children in Year 4 must learn their multiplication tables. In July there is a National Multiplication Tables Check. All children in Year 4 are encouraged to learn all of their multiplication facts up to 12 x 12.
To enable this, we will be working our way up the times table ladder each week. You will receive a weekly PING to tell you of your child’s achievements and what to learn at home next. Times table books must be returned to school for our weekly test each Thursday.
TTROCKSTARS: this is a brilliant program to encourage times tables practise. It is recommended to complete 21 minutes of GARAGE each week to develop multiplication fluency in the Autumn Term.
All children have a login and are encouraged to use it as often as they can.

Writing
We use Jane Considine’s ‘The Write Stuff’ as a basis for our writing. The Writing Rainbow helps us during our sentence stacking and independent writing.
Reading
We love reading in Year 4.
Here is a link to some recommended reads for Year 4 .https://www.thereaderteacher.com/year4
Every child has a reading book and a book they have chosen from our fabulous library.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Dr Suess.

Reading daily is essential
Spelling
Spellings: This year we will be using Ninja Spelling resources. Each week we will distribute 10 spellings.
We will practise them in school and then test on Thursday.
Please ensure that your spelling book is back in school in time for the test on Thursday each week.
This Half Term's Learning
Autumn 2
In our Maths lessons we will complete our learning on subtraction with exchanges, then we will introduce the concept of area by counting squares and then continue with learning our multiplication and division facts based on the 3, 6 and 9 times tables. We will end the year with the 7, 11 and 12 times table.
In English lessons we will plan and write our version of ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’ from the viewpoint of the Fox. Our new focus on writing is a travel brochure to introduce persuasive writing based on a trip to Sicily. This will culminate in writing our own travel brochure.
In RE lessons we will focus on the importance of light to different religions. We will also celebrate INTERFAITH week ( 10th November ) with each class focussing on a different religion- Christianity, Judaism and Sikhism.
In History the theme is Ancient Egypt .
In Geography we will learn about European countries with a focus on Sicily.
In Computing we will introduce how to populate and interrogate a simple spreadsheet.
In PE we are developing skills with our partners ‘Beyond the Physical.’ Our focus this term is ‘hands, feet and equipment’, using a range of equipment to develop skills for sports.
In French we are learning how to pronounce French colours.
Also this is the season of goodwill to all mankind so be prepared for rehearsals and songs. The concert dates will be confirmed in the near future.
Than you for your continued support with spellings and times tables- the whole year group is making fantastic progress- well done!
